As far as I understand correctly, remote-to-local one way sync with mbsync from pkgsrc/main/isync is reliable (at least isync-1.4.4nb3, isync 1.5.1 has problems). And I am using pkgsrc/mail/notmuch to search my emails locally. I am offline often and it is useful to search and read emails, and write replies locally.
