Same problem on a MacBook-Air(2020).  i951drmkms is at fault.

I'm guessing it does something stupid sometimes on some systems and ends
up with either no video output at all, or else black on black or some
such silliness.

Unfortunately the MacBook Air won't finish booting without disabling the
i915drmkms driver.  Indeed it seems to get stuck in a CPU loop as it
slowly heats up and the fan ramps up to full speed.

I do wonder if that could still also be the problem on the macbook....
