Tweeking PS1

I got it working with 'tput'.

Looks and starts fine when I run from .ksh
(by hand).

If I run it inside of shell (in .xinitrc) it fails.
PS1 is the borning black in a X window.
I use xdm to login.

Is there a right way to start this when I login??
