The point is that once you have patched your iptables and kernel, the feature 
is really incorporated into iptables.

The installed manpage will be no more different than the actual installed 
iptables, but chances are high that the installed manpage will at least match 
the installed iptables binary..

I have no opinion on if this is in iptables(8) or iptables_extensions(8).

Another benefit is that having documentation as part of pom is to allow the 
documentation to evolve more naturally, with a reasonably high likelyhood 
that suitable documentation can exists by the time the patch reaches "base" 
or "submitted" level.. 

Regarding SGML etc.. I am all fine with having iptables(8) generated from 
SGML, but I have the opinion that most people only read the full 
documentation (HTML / PS / HOWTO or even info) while learning. Once familiar 
with the stuff manpages and --help options is what is being used.
