For accounting you can use

iptables -A FORWARD -s $INTERNAL_LAN

for the outgoung traffic and

itpables -A FORWARD -d $INTERNAL_LAN

for the incoming traffic

You should place this rules at the bgeinning of the FORWARD chain

with 

iptables -L -v 

you can see the outging and incoming packets and bytes.
