Hi all , new to this list. Ive been running iptables on mandrake 8.1, in the bastille-netfilter implementation, with just additions to allow proto 2 & 93 to be used. this works well. I also use xinetd for port redirection to a machine behind the firewall.
Yesterday I tried mandrake 8.2 beta3 :(( everything that went to the external interface, ie. the one connected to the internet was declared as a martian. even packets sent from lo(127.0.0.1) to the machine ports for xinetd redirection were dropped. I noticed that one installing 8.2 iptables2 was a manditory install. Flushing the iptables rules had no effect, and listing the rules did not show where they were being dropped. Of course no documentation to show what they have done. can anyone explain, or point me in the direction of reading material, the only references to martians I can find on the net are gated and iptables2. TIA BR Richard
