Mark, It was suggested to download and install syslog-ng. Syslog-ng works similarly to syslog, however it allows you to create your own facilities (kern, mail, cron, etc), thereby separating iptables logs from the other kernel stuff. I've down loaded and installed it, but to be honest, I haven't got it up and running just yet, as the configuration is somewhat complex and I've been swamped with other things.
