Hi, I have to audit my other dept. Linux box running Ipfilters. I have gone through the how to of IpFilters but if i can get some best pratices of installing & configuring IPtables i can create a checklist for securing the Linux box as a firewall for the dept.
Some of the queries r 1) how to know with what options is ipfilter is compiled in the Kernel. is it modprobe ? if yes what could be the exact syntax as it gives alot of info. 2) how to know where r the iptables rules stored without asking the admin. 3) where could be the conf. file from where the iptables/ipfilter daemon picks 4) What options r required for the best practice to be compiled with the kernel with Ipfilters in a general environment etc. I could think of only few options above if there r more please feel free to add & give details.
