Talking about the following:
I had a iptables 1.2.5 perfectly running.The only thing I
disliked was its modularity - insmodding filter, nat&mangle.
So I tried building a static netfilter (v1.2.6a)
by uncommenting NO SHARED LIBS=1 in the main makefile.
Then typed: make pending-patches KERNEL_DIR=, make
KERNEL_DIR=, make install KERNEL_DIR= consequently.
I made a typo rebuilding my kernel: make modules install instead of
make modules_install, which noticed too late - 20 hrs after the first
attempt.
So I wrote a letter to the list, asking for help which seems to have been destroyed by
lists.samba.org or sth else for unknown reason.
While waiting, I kept on trying. Finally I grasped
what's missing and built a kernel with modular netfilter
to be safe that I have some kind of filter on my net i/face.
The side effect of patching&rebuilding was that PSD and some
other options got lost/configured differently from my instructions.
I will take a break, deal with my other stuff and then try again.
My plea is can you tell me A) how to build a static netfilter or B) point a
URL with some dox on the subject or C)explain step by step rusty's guide 4
static netfilter in the INSTALL file to me ?
Regards,
Dimitar
