They do not mind a windows xp machine (more likely to have viruses) most likely without updated security patches and anti virus software being connected directly to the c2k network. I mean by this, the unmanaged side. It is probable that the limited services you encountered on rebooting the apple are set up for easylink/email services for the unmanaged side of c2k machines.

I don't suppose that C2K will be too happy about you connecting non-C2K
kit to the managed side of the network. If you have a legacy network
using the C2K internet access then they would not mind that.

Subject: Macs on the network?
We've just bought a few new iMacs, I've contacted northgate about
getting intenret access for them but as yet my call has to be returned.
Out of interest I've just connected one of the iMacs up to one of the
C2K ports and restarted it. To my astonishment it gives me some
restricted internet access (I'm presently writing this email using OWA).
I can get to www.c2kni.net, and from there I can get to my email,
learningni and access my files and folders on the network. Access to all
other internet services appears to be barred - it just states that the
server has stopped responding.
2 questions:
Did we know we could do this? Can I do a fiddle to get full internet
access?
thanks
Andrew
