We hope to provide some additional guidance on the disposal of ICT equipment to comply with the WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) directive soon. In the meantime schools can find some helpful general information from BECTa on our website at www.belb.org.uk/teachers/download

BELB schools can get further advice from the BELB Repair Helpline on 02890507508 or via email from George Hull ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

AMI is a local WEEE approved data removal and disposal company and can be contacted on 02890844400.

Please note charges will be made for the disposal of items and indeed if computers are sent to auction for re-sale the cost of transportation from school to auction will be raised against the schools budget.

Typically the cost of disposing of a monitor would be in the £3 - £4 range and if items are sent to auction schools should expect charges for transportation in the region of £25 - £50.

A letter dated 2 March 05 from Catherine Burnett, Procurement Officer has already been sent to school which contains further background on WEEE.

More detailed information to follow.
