[NetMeeting] Garbled audio

While in a perfectly fine conference, if I get an audible notification that I
have received email via Netscape, my incoming audio gets slighty garbled. This
same kind of response happens if I respond to an ICQ message while I am in a
conference. Any clues, in layman's terms, how to attack this problem? Compaq
Prosignia,450 Mhz, 128 MB RAM, cable modem, Ensoniq card.
