I can't think of a reason why Msn Messenger would not work ( assuming both ends are
using V 2.1). There was a bug with multihomed (more than one IP address) machines
initiating the NM call with the invite function that supposedly was fixed in V2.1 of
messenger. Determining your current Ip address and sending to the other party and
waiting for them to call would work as well.
You could try using visitalk's directory ( www.visitalk.com) it offers a web based
directory and web based buddy list -- if might be more suitable to your needs.
