[NetMeeting] Questions

I am a "newbie" yet to make my first connection.  I have read that you need
a HOTMAIL address.  Is this true?  Can't I use my/their regular address?  IP
address?  Also I can't find info regarding "Automatic"  "Directory" and
"Network" connection choices.  Which should I chose?  Any benefit to one
over another.  Many more questions, but this will do for now.
