BRU SERVER 1.1 FOR MAC OS X DATA BACKUP FROM TOLIS GROUP DELIVERS ENHANCED
WORKFLOW AND SYNCHRONIZATION MODULE
Heightened ease-of-use and alleviating an administrator's workload highlight
the enhancements shown at WWDC in San Francisco
WWDC 2004, San Francisco June 28, 2004 TOLIS Group, Inc., developer of the
ultra-reliable BRU brand of data protection solutions, today announces the
immediate availability of BRU Server for Mac OS X 1.1 that delivers enhanced
operability and workflow. Also announced is functionality that allows users to
sync their key data to the server much like a PDA/Desktop scenario.
A system administrator's job is complex, and the requirement to protect
critical data across the organization can be daunting. As Mac OS X is
increasingly being implemented across larger organizations, increased workloads
on computing resources, especially the administrator, beg the availability of
easy-to-use applications that are robust and deliver improved
workflows.
"We have produced a graphical interface that enhances BRU Server's ease-of-
operability to the point that non-backup literate administrators can easily
protect data across the largest of organizations," said Tim Jones, president of
TOLIS Group.
Much like following a map to reach a destination in a logical flow, the new BRU
Server interface presents its information and choices to the user in a clear
and concise manner that is easy to understand and follow.
"Mac OS X is a modern operating system that delivers the power of UNIX with the
reliability, ease-of-use and elegance of the Macintosh," said Ron Okamoto,
Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "With BRU Server for
Mac OS X TOLIS Group has demonstrated its ability to produce reliable data
protection solutions for Mac OS X."
BRU Server's Synchronization Module will be used in conjunction with BRU
Server's robust Disk Staging (D2D) capability, and allows an administrator to
segment a portion of the disk stage as a repository to which end-users can
backup (sync) and restore his or her own files without backup administrator
action.
The administrator defines which end-users are granted permission to sync their
files, and the disk capacity allotted to each of them dependent upon the
nature of their data, whether textual or audio/graphical works of art. The
synchronization tool is a complement to the normal backup strategy and offloads
the requirement to continually restore files "yesterday," as typically demanded
by impatient users who have lost their information.
BRU Server for Mac OS X users covered under TOLIS' extended technical support
agreement will be upgraded to v1.1 at no cost. The Synchronization Module,
available in Q3, 2004, will be a standard inclusion in BRU Server Enterprise
version, and an option for use with BRU Server Network or BRU Server Basic when
incremental client system support has been added.
Scaling from support of two networked systems to support across an enterprise,
BRU Server 1.1 takes Mac OS X data protection to a new level.
