I think Vala is not a good choice in this case. I mentioned the fact that Vala isn't so diffuse as C is. So, less people will be able to help in coding. And also I noticed that I'm an old UNIX sysadmin/guru used to work (still today! :) with old/ancient UNIX systems so I'm in love with C for historical and geronto purposes.
