The OpenSolaris based School OS was used as a platform for Master Trainer Program of CBSE conducted from 21st August to 23rd August in Delhi for training the teachers from all across India.
The Master Trainer Program was conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the leading board in India, to train the teachers on the new FOSS based "Informatics Practices Curriculum" for Class XI and XII. (As we are all aware this curriculum drafted by us, based on Open Source with the focus on concepts and fundamentals of computers was accepted and introduced by CBSE in the month of April 2009 )
The participants at the Master Trainer Program were teachers and HOD computer science, who are experts in their field representing the leading schools from their respective region. The program saw participation from private schools to Kendriya Vidyalaya and the regions as diverse from metro city like Delhi to locations like Jharkhand.
All the participants take back with them a CD of School OS, which will be further used to train the teachers from the schools of respective region.
*School OS* : School OS is a collection of all relevant Free and Open Source software that is needed for a school student to follow the school curriculum. School OS includes a Free/Open Source operating system OpenSolaris and all additional open source educational software such as GIMP, OpenOffice.org, MySQL, Java and many more. School OS is specially designed for school children with the user friendly interface.
