One of the key concerns seems to be around getting the performance
required to not miss packets. However, a few things are happening:
1) Gigabit ethernet is common place
2) Ten gigabit (Ethernet, Infiniband) gaining popularity
3) More slower cores
Does this imply that there should be some requirement for ensuring
that the new architecture is able to effectively use multiple threads?
I think the best thing I can say here is to come back in 6 months
or so time. More than architectural changes to Solaris are
required to deliver gigabit capture speed.
