This seems to be an issue for UDP and ICMP only and I believe you are
looking for IP_PKTINFO option for UDP ?

I also want to point out that this is an issue with V4 only. IPV6
supports this via IPV6_PKTINFO/IPV6_RECV_KTINFO. see man ip6(7p).
