snoop the interface and trying pinging the box from a different machine.
Does snoop show the ping requests incoming and anything outgoing ?
Does dmesg show the interface up at the right speed ?
A kstat output would be nice, it would help showing the link status etc.
$ kstat -m nge
There was an issue with nge on a U40 previous to build 53, what your seeing
is very like what the issue was.
Other questions, is this box dual boot ? do you have another OS on it ?
lastly whats the boot order on it ?, eg is it the usual
cdrom -> disk -> network
or something different ?
Other OSes/boot-orders can leave the nge card in a state that Solaris
doesn't really like.
