STREAMS needn't actually be slow by design, and if you find slowness
anywhere in the system, I'd strongly suggest fixing it.  But I assume
that there's no reason to argue this point.

See CR 4960910.  The sonode switch should do what you're asking about,
and was integrated during S10 development.
