If the IRE cache table is going to persist within Solaris' IP stack,
what can we do to change the way it is used?

For example, do we need to have 40k entries that all contain the
same data, except for a host IP address?

Do we even need to have all 40k entries?

Darren,
There has been discussions about revamping the hash algorithm, and even getting rid of the cache table. But ofcourse before we pick a alternative scheme, IMHO, we need to come up with prototypes and do functionality and perf analysis to come up with the most appropriate choice.

How complex is your setup( how many hosts, what topology, what kind of router and what is it running)? If possible, we would like to be able to recreate the scenario in our labs and look into this.
