I don't think qfe supports VLAN. On Solaris 8, with the VLAN packages
installed, I believe ce (and bge?) supports VLAN. I could be wrong, hopefully someone in this alias could correct me if so.

I did some searching and older (qfe, eri) interface material does not mention VLANs at all. The gigaswift cards (ce) support VLANs on Solaris 8 with VLAN patch 112119 (SPARC) and with a patch for Solaris 9 and 10 (SPARC and x86). The bge interface supports VLANs with 112233-11 for Solaris 9 (there is an x86 equiv via 116485-03 and 112234-11), and support is integrated into Solaris 9 4/04.

Unfortunatly we still have some Solaris 8 boxes still active and there is a requirement to add VLAN interfaces.

This I have previoulsy done in solaris 10 simply plumbing the interface "ifconfig qfe2003 plumb" for an example.

Going back to Solaris 8.....

I have installed the vlan packages (SUNWvld & SUNWvldu), and attempted to plumb the interface:

# ifconfig qfe2003 plumb
ifconfig: SIOCSLIFNAME for ip: qfe2003: no such interface

....Has anyone any experience with plumbing VLAN interfaces on Solaris 8? Any guides/how to's?

Thanks in advance
