That depends entirely on the device driver. There is a Solaris Systems
Administrator Guide that goes over this in detail, but there is also a
document I wrote for my own unbundled "afe" and "mxfe" drivers that you
might find helpful. While it has some bits that are specific to "afe"
and "mxfe", a lot of what it covers is actually pretty universal for NIC
