Hi;
What about the pf hooks project ? We are using it to hook ip packets.
Isin't it the right interface to do that ?
A year ago I was told to NOT use STREMS and wait for the pf hooks.

There is something new ? What is MDE ?
Do I need to talk with them if I use the pf hooks for a commercial product?

Thanks
Diego B

Is that the only way for a commercial product to hook packets in Solaris 10? Could one not use IPFilter as well (with the appropriate credits :-) ) ?

It isn't the only way they can hook packets in Solaris 10.
They can use the same model that the open source IPFilter
(and IPFilter in Solaris 10, pre Update 4) uses which is via
a STREAMS module.

Using IPFilter as a base means you're really on your own,
in terms of a relationship with Sun because it uses interfaces
that aren't public and therefore aren't something that Sun
has committed to support. For open source products, this
kind of thing usually isn't a problem :-) ;-)

If you (or anyone else for that matter) is develop a commercial
product that wants to hook packets in [Open]Solaris then I
would encourage you to get in contact with your local Sun people
and start talking with our MDE team.

Cheers,
Darren

    Arun,

If you're wanting to deliver products for Solaris 10 or 11
then you (or your company) should be looking to engage
Sun's Market Development Engineering (MDE) program
    for Independant Software Vendors (ISVs.)

    Cheers,
    Darren
