I think there's be plenty of value in some common XGMII code; particularly for formulating and gathering stats. There are well laid down standards for MMD register sets and the PHYs I've met stick to them pretty well. As for common XGMII reset or init. code, I'd say there would be less value; it can be very PHY specific.
