Thanks for the reply. In two other installations (one a desktop and the other an HP dv9000z notebook), I had to drop and restart the dhcp service to "refresh the DNS" (can't think of a better description, but basically the NIC is working but can't get to the internet). Don't really have any idea what's going on. With IBM R61i (with e1000g NIC), the problem is worse. If I did not disconnect the ethernet cable before rebooting, the NIC would "disappear" altogether (i.e., "ifconfig -a" does not show e1000g). Not knowing a better way around, when this happened, I always had to shut down the notebook, unplug the ethernet cable, wait for a couple of minutes before reboot. I have also observed the same problem with Solaris and Solaris Express. Since the RC2 LiveCD works with this notebook, I don't think this problem is urgent, but eventually would like to see it fixed. I believe I have filed a bug report. But any suggestions as to what I should try so as to better diagnose the cause of this problem will be appreciated. Thanks. On a side note, the scroll bar of the mouse pad does not work on this machine.
