In that case, I'd certainly recommend OpenSolaris over S10.

It's too many things to mention by a simple email message, but, in
short, S10 is Sun's previous commercial release of Solaris, which was
launched in 2005.  It has had several updates since then, but remains
effectively a subset of what's in OpenSolaris.

By contrast, OpenSolaris is the current system under development.  It
includes more device drivers (particularly for x86 systems), newer
features, and a bunch of other stuff.

Inside Sun, the rule is that projects must integrate into the release
under development (which is "Nevada" -- also OpenSolaris) and then
"soak" before even being considered for inclusion in an older
release.  And most new things are not permitted to be released on the
older platform.
