Because the SMF service disables the sendmail daemon which is used not just
for in-bound mail (what most people think of the sendmail service as being
for), but also for out-bound mail.  So if for example you have a cron job
that tries to send mail, it will try to use sendmail to do so, and if
sendmail cannot determine its fully qualified host name, then the above
message will result.

If you are interested in fixing the FQHN issue, run check-hostname and do
