Correct, that is the limitation for current OpenSolaris as well as Solaris 10. But with Crossbow you can define vnics on top of a NIC (each having a different MAC address) and use those e.g., with exclusive-IP zones. Crossbow also provides Ethernet stubs which allows you to define an internal Ethernet network that can be used to connect together exclusive-IP zones. (I suspect that would be the best fit for your case; you define VNICs on the Ethernet stub as a way for the global zone to communicate with the non-global zone.)
