What protocol are you running, and what is your system config?
It is hard to imagine how 10 MB/sec would yield 90% cpu utilization unless you are running on a very, very old system. 10 MB/sec on NFS/TCP on a single-core Opteron should consume something on the order of 10% or less, even on older 1.x GHz processors.
