Is there anything else which runs by default and can be accessed from
"localhost" ?

I know... but my problem is that I need something which can be tested
even if the user has no "root" access (for example students who use
university computers will usually _not_ get "root" access, regardless
how much they wail&&begg for it (remeber OS/Net was changed a while ago
to permit non-"root" builds for a similar reason)).

My particular problem is that I wish to add a basic test module to the
ksh93-integration test suite but this test suite should run on a plain
Solaris Nevada installation (which rules out any user-modifications and
_must_ not require "root" rights in any case).
