I'm seeing a serious latency problem with igb interfaces under OpenSolaris. I
have several test boxes that display the bad behaviour. I see ping responses
like the the following, averaged over several thousand pings with obvious
outliers discarded:

X4170 S10u7/igb -> X4170 snv_111b/igb  avg 145us
X4170 snv_111b/igb -> X4170 S10u7/igb  avg 190us

X4170 snv_111b/igb -> X4150 S10u4/e1000g  avg 230us
X4170 S10u7/igb -> X4150 snv_111b/e1000g  avg 117us

X4150 S10u4/e1000g -> X4150 S10u4/e1000g  avg 169us
X4150 snv_111b/e1000g -> X4150 snv_111b/e1000g avg 168us

The first pair of results is from a pair of X4170s, looking in each direction.
All of the results are from pairs of boxes that are on the same subnet and
switch.

It seems to be that whenever the OpenSolaris igb driver sends a ping, the
latency will be higher than in any other configuration. Has anyone seen this
kind of behaviour before? No tuning has been done to these systems -- is there
something that is missing from the default configuration of OpenSolaris for the
igb driver? Or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Adrian
