Point to point interfaces don't really have MAC addresses, and tunnels
are normally point-to-point.  The output from ifconfig with a
point-to-point interface is fairly misleading.

There's no MAC layer as such.  (Or, rather, the IP layer underneath the
tunnel that provides the outer header behaves as though it were the "MAC
layer" in terms of addressing.)

Perhaps a VNIC ... though not with a tunnel.
