Point to point interfaces don't really have MAC addresses, and tunnels are normally point-to-point. The output from ifconfig with a point-to-point interface is fairly misleading. > Since you can not ifconfig the ethers on a tun0 interface I was wondering if > there is a outbound packet filter program I can run to rewrite the mac > address on outbound packets from a interface? There's no MAC layer as such. (Or, rather, the IP layer underneath the tunnel that provides the outer header behaves as though it were the "MAC layer" in terms of addressing.) > Or maybe some kind of trick I can do to get a interface with a mac address > for vpnc to use. I have tried tap but it fails to configure with a HW eeror. Perhaps a VNIC ... though not with a tunnel. -- James Carlson 42.703N 71.076W <[email protected]> _______________________________________________ networking-discuss mailing list [email protected]
