you can try my package at http://bootlab.org/~j/NetworkManager-breezy/
since i do not have a ppc box you have to build the packages yourself.
add
deb-src http://bootlab.org/~j/NetworkManager-breezy/ ./
to /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get -b source network-manager
and install the deb packages. with these packages you should
get a working NetworkManager setup. that includes things like
not using the redhat at_console hack but using a group etc..

ps: you can also wait some more days, my packages should hit
ubuntu/breezy universe soon.
