Generally speaking, coming up with a way to test an IP address for validity is
part of the DNA spec, so that functionality ought to be in the combined
NetworkManager/DHCP/autoconf system. And I think that the need you've
described is not tremendously uncommon, so although I have no real say in the
matter I am at least 100% behind you in thinking this is a useful feature.
