You are right, I did not think about that. I hope someone with the 
necessary privileges can make that change.

The documentation does not reflect in which versions this feature was 
introduced. Older info pages (I checked 1.7.9) do not list this 
feature, however. You can also find it in the 1.9 release announcement:
