model and version number. For instance, I have a Linksys WUSB11, v2.8,
which uses different drivers than say, a v2.6 or 1.0 might. In fact, your
card may not have Linux drivers.
When you say "it will not see the router", do you mean that NetworkManager
does not list your wireless router's SSID?
Or, is it the case that the access point's SSID is listed by NetworkManager,
but you simply cannot resolve a connection after entering the WEP key
information? Try to enter the WEP key in its hexadecimal format if you
aren't already; I have noticed that there are inconsistencies in the way
"WEP passwords" are generated from ASCII passwords by routers. (Better yet,
switch to a WPA or WPA2 password; WEP is easily cracked).

Don't be dismayed by the large number of "try this" approaches. The problem
could be any number of things, and people are probably trying to help you
narrow it down by offering a variety of suggestions. It could be a driver
issue, it could be a hardware issue, it could be an issue with the way the
WEP key is being entered, etc. Also, check the hardware compatibility list
at www.linuxquestions.org if you are thinking of purchasing any equipment.
It is extensive and has user feedback.
