You can configure Linux to allow X-Windows to run automatically at boot time,
without the "startx" command. In this case, you'll have to login through the KDM prompt (I believe this is what your looking for)
In order to do this, just edit the /ect/inittab file and replace the line
id:3:initdefault:
with this line
id:5:initdefault:
This changes the "runlevel" into mode 5 (graphical mode)
