You need to make sure you upgrade to the newer Modutils and Initscripts.
Atleast that is what I had to do when I compiled a 2.2 on a system with a
2.0.36
Goto the Mandrake Site and click on Updates.
I just got the 2.3.12 Kernel to compile on my system and I am running into
the Same problems with the sound.
