Neil,
I haven't used bootmagic(linux only system!) but the problem appears to be the
delay in lilo.
What't the timeout= line set to in /etc/lilo.conf?
This value is 1/10 seconds. I suspect it's less than 10. If you change the
value run /sbin/lilo as root.
