ftp? Well, ftp will do the job and there are plenty of variants of it around, my favorite (non-graphical) is 'ncftp'. An RPM is included in the distribution. If you're using KDE, and can look at your home directory on the university server with konqueror, then you can just drag and drop files from your computer over to the server.
