have  you tried (when you reach "I just fired up HardDrake to see what kind 
of disks it thought I was using and it killed X") Ctrl+Alt+f7? or any of the 
other fx (x=<8) keys? when harddrake kills my ideo, I Ctrl+Alt+f7, and wow... 
right back where I was... maybe X is not realllllllllllly killed?
