I used to run kppp as a user to access my dial-up modem without any problems. After installing a LAN card I found that I when I ran kppp as user the connection would be made but the browser and email would not work. Mandrake control centre insisted that I was not connected to the internet. I worked around the problem by creating a new profile and using Mandrake control centre to access the internet. The only problem now is that kppp runs as root. 1. Is this a security problem 2. How can I go back to using kppp as user?
