Three questions: 1. Do you have the nvidia drivers installed? 2. Did you compile them from source? 3. Do you use the enterprise kernel? If you answer yes to all 3 then you may have compiled the drivers against the standard kernel config rather than the enterprise kernel config (like I did 2 days ago). I had the same problem until I copied the config from /boot to /usr/src/linux-2.4.19-16mdk/.config and recompiled the drivers. The core dumps have stopped and X is no longer locking up after 10-20 mins. Oh, and the other thing was to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and add: Option "NvAGP" "1" to the Device Section. That was also causing problems with my hardware although this may not apply to your system. Sorry I can't help if this does not apply in your case.
