Hi Benjamin, you were right. I should have thought of it from that point of view. But even when I do a hdparm test on the individual drives, I still get very low readings. The drives are both set with basically everything turned off, including DMA. When I try to turn it on, it still tells me that I am not permitted to use DMA on these drives. Why would that be do you think. I know what you are saying, regarding the trustworthyness of the results in real world use, but the examples of other software raid systems have all used the hdparm test to check results, and they have shown an increase in throughput over the single drive setup. There must be something wrong here??!! Maybe I should just forget about it, and go back to the normal method. I have deffinately not seen an improvement in speed, and can notice that it is slightly more sluggish at the moment. It is just strange, as this method is supposed to improve performance. regards Greg ----- Original Message ----- From: "Benjamin Pflugmann" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, January 31, 2003 7:54 AM Subject: Re: [newbie] poor performance on software raid setup
