It's true that 90% of the video players available for Linux are crap, but he didn't give MPlayer a fair shot. That said, if he gets frustrated that fast, he should not be using the kind of OS that requires some actual learning. Maybe in 5 years, Linux will have improved enough for my father to use it, too.
