I agree, failure after one or two weeks is a classic symptom of static
damage.

Get yourself a wrist-strap and use it. Also how do the staff at the shop
handle the RAM? I had a guy carry RAM to me in his bare hands once. I
was not impressed. (Fortunately it survived.)
