You might want to seriously look into the proper driver for the iBook -
I seem to remember that I had some kinda ATI card in mine...so in
identifying the proper driver, then obtaining it, you should have a
clean go at it from there...

You might want to boot into console mode to change/modify the driver as
well - cuz sometimes when doing the driver from within XWin, you muck
things up worse...
