why do you want to? 
3gigs is fine for/ as long as you keep your data on /home (and you
will), 5 gigs is more than enough ,(IMHO) unless you are running a
webserver with gigs online, then you might/will want a /var partition
big enough to hold all the other web stuff, but even then it is no
problem to keep the web stuff on /home.
